The Covid-19 vaccination programme is entering its next stage, after everyone in the top four priority groups have been offered a jab.
With 1 in 3 adults in the UK now being vaccinated, the government is looking to offer the vaccination to those on the learning disability register, over-60s, as well as anyone over 16 with a health condition which increases their risk.
The move to vaccinate the over-50s priority group is expected by mid-April, with their second dose administered by mid-July.
With the developing concern of new Coronavirus variants, early research on Pfizer-BioNTech and Oxford-AstraZeneca suggest that both vaccines are able to provide a good level of protection against the ‘Kent’ variant now dominant in the United Kingdom.
